Dr. Imtiaz Taj is senior faculty member at SS-CARE. He has a significant teaching and industry research experience. His areas of expertise are Image Processing, Computer Vision, Optical Network, Non-linear Optics, Photo refractive Wave Mixing and Free-space Optical Switching. He has published 20 research papers including 11 papers in journals of international repute.
Educational Qualifications
Ph.D in Electronics and Information Engineering from Hokkaido
University, Sapporo, Japan.
M.S. Electronics and Information Engineering from Hokkaido
University, Sapporo, Japan.
B.Sc. Electrical Engineering from UET Peshawar.
During his Masters and Ph.D. studies in Japan, his main areas of
research were Optical Networking, Non-linear Optics, Photo
refractive Wave Mixing, Free-space Optical Switching. From his
research in the fields of optics, he published 10 papers in
journals of international repute and 7 papers in international
conferences.
Work experience
Dr Imtiaz has a work experience of around 7 years including 5 years of post PhD experience in R&D and teaching. During this time he was associated with Communication Enabling Technologies, CARE, and CASE. In Enabling Technologies he worked as a member of VLSI hardware design group and was involved in ASIC design and verification of various components for Avaz VoIP Media Processors. He also worked on the design of MIPS UDI based extension processor optimized for working on G.729a Codec. At CARE he led the Machine Vision and Image Processing Group and worked on an industrial project including development of various robust image processing algorithms and their real-time implementation on FPGA based image processors and dedicated DSP processors. Since Dr. Imtiaz has research experience in fields of both Optics and Computer Vision, his current teaching and research interests are in both of these fields. At CASE he has taught the courses of Computer Vision, Digital Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. At SS-CARE School of Engineering, he is currently teaching the course of "Signals and Systems" and plans to teach courses related to Image Processing and Optics.
From
May 16, 2001 to January 2003, he was associated with
Communication Enabling Technologies, Islamabad, as Member
Technical Staff. There he worked as a member of VLSI hardware
design group and was involved in ASIC design and verification of
various components for Avaz VoIP Media Processors.
Since Dr. Imtiaz has research experience in fields of both
Optics and Computer Vision, his current teaching and research
interests are in both these fields. Currently he is teaching the
courses related to Computer Vision in Computer Engineering
program of Centre for Advance Studies in Engineering (CASE). He
also plans to offer courses related to Optics in SS-CARE SCHOOL
OF ENGINEERING School of Engineering such as, Photonics, Optical
Communication, Optical Networking, and Laser Optics.
